Party of 5
April 2, 2012
When I woke up this morning I was a mother to two amazing children. I knew that in a matter of hours that would change. My daughter wouldn't be the only girl anymore. My son would no longer be "The Baby". This photo was taken in the waiting room of the hospital. I had asked my mom to watched them until I was out of surgery.
I checked into the hospital at noon. My surgery wasn't set to start until 2:30. I had prepped my mom for a long wait. I was about to have a scheduled c-section and could be bumped if need be.
The first thing you do is dress into a snazzy hospital gown. I have some friends that chose to pack their own. I didn't. Honestly I don't see the point. It's going to get gross and I was alone really, so no need, ya know? After you are dressed you do the IV(and they go ahead and swipe some blood, just in case they come across a need for it) and an exam. You lay in your bed, they put monitors around your stomach to check HR and Contraction level. (surprisingly I was having mild to moderate ones, but was unaware..) Then the exam begins. Holy Moly, this lady asked me everything you could fathom. It took over an hour for her to question me.

Pre-Op Room |
Next the anesthesiologist comes in and chats with you. He explains everything that will go on and answer any questions. This was my 2nd time doing this, so I pretty much knew. But he was super sweet and we chatted for a while.
Then the nurse came back and said my doctor is already there and wants to know if I mind going into surgery a little early. No way!! Let's get this show on the road. I was anxious to have my baby girl and go home, haha.
So, she gave me some special wipes and I had to go to the bathroom and wipe from boob to knee with them on the front of my body. What comes next you ask? Well then it gets personal. I had to lay down and she shaved me!! Oh yeah, you want a baby? You must check any form of modesty at the door. I'll be honest. I did let things get a little hairy (pun intended) cause after a while grooming becomes difficult and well, I didn't really care in the last couple weeks. After my trim, I get treated to some alka seltzer. It is supposed to be for your stomach acids and blah blah blah. Whatever, just drink it fast. It is nasty.
Before I knew it we were on our way to the OR and leaving hubby. He was with me up until this point. they have hubby (or whoever you take) dress up all nice in some scrubs while you get prepped .

Hubby waiting to be called in |
I will be the first to admit. I was terrified of the spinal. I have had a horrid epidural experience and lumbar punctures all throughout my teens, and a previous c-section, but still. I HATE back stuff. I was nervous, but they talk you through it and it goes fast.
I had to sit up, hunch over like a cat into the arms of a nurse. First comes the cleaning solution wipe down (Iodine), and then you get stuck with the numbing med. This is just a local and numbs the area for your spinal. If you are normal, you will get one shot at this point. I, however, have to be a freak and require three shots. All my back issues have led to a higher tolerance and I would still feel the surgery with one shot. Lucky me, huh?
After the spinal, they have you lay back on the table. There are more blue and green scrubs in the room you dare to count. Some start putting the lovely blue curtain in front of you. One goes out and gets hubby. You hear them calling out numbers, counting up to 15 a few times. (No idea what that is about. Counting the tools maybe?)

Delivery my baby!! |
Waiting impatiently :) |
Then you hear crying. It is THAT FAST. I think my surgery took 5minutes. No joke. Sewing me takes longer, of course. But my dr is actually called "lightening" because he is wicked fast. I don't know if he's fast or not, though since I've only had him deliver my kids. I get a super quick peep over the blue curtain before the whisk her away.
Fist time I saw my baby |
I craned my neck to watch as they clean her up and bring her over so I can get a better look. I ask if she's ok, and they tell me she's beautiful and perfect. I know that means healthy in Dr terms, so I just cry in happiness. I can not believe I am lucky enough to have another daughter. And medically speaking or not. She is beautiful and she is perfect!

Weekend Before Baby!
Friday: I started bleeding (more than usual cervical check spotting but not enough to go to L&D either) had some minor cramping, but the worse was I was feeling so lightheaded and sick to my stomach. I was hungry, but couldn't eat. I kept feeling like I was going to either pass out or throw up. Very weird feeling. Hubby made me sit in my recliner all day, he even made dinner. After I put Sebastian to bed, I laid down too. Just watched TV and felt blah.
Saturday: I felt a bit better . No more blood, which is always a plus and only remotely queasy so yay!
Sunday: Felt a lot better. Last minute house cleaning/baby prep, grocery run, etc.

Last NST
NST went well. She had a couple decels but nothing like before and stayed on the monitor really well. Only took 25 minutes!! BUT dr didn't like how I got up from the chair and was concerned with my pressure so he wanted a urine sample (?) and a cervical check (sad face, I wasn't signed up for that today)
Cervix is "starting to dilate" but he didn't say a number of cm or anything, and then said he could totally feel her head in position AND would say "feel that?" and I was like "nooo...???" Apparently I am contracting?? He said I have to rest up, take it easy, no lifting, etc etc over the weekend and he "hopes" I make it until Monday...

yet another NST
NST, went great. She was a mad dancer and kept her excels like amazing AND stayed on the monitor the entire time. That has never happened. Her baseline stayed in the 140s but she'd dance up to the 160-170s and was just all happy. The entire 20 minutes went perfect!!
38 Week Checkup
went ok I suppose, lol.
weight is the same.
BP was good (133/87) high for me, yes, but not scary. Too much white blood cells in urine once again, so they are giving me a new script of antibiotics. Still dilated at 1cm, but dr said she dropped and he could feel her head! eek, lol. We went over all my surgery stuff again, and he gave me a list of things to look out for cuz he is praying she behaves. Says she is way lower than he'd like for her to be at this point, and with her being my 3rd, who knows if she is going to decide to make her entrance before we are ready..oi

NST: again
NST
took an hour and a half!!! ?? So apparently the "deal" is you have to have 20minutes of complete line (no breaks) and have 2 ecels during that time. Well no watch/phone/clock and I was on there what I thought to be at least 20 minutes. There were no breaks, but a couple tiny decels. THEN she began kicking it off her. Took 4 different people coming in and repositioning me and trying to locate a good enough spot where she would stay put. after forever I finally asked if we got enough at the beginning, and they said No. Said she must have been sleeping or something cuz there were no eccels. She wasn't asleep unless she's active when she sleeps cuz i felt her the whole time.
Her HR was all over the place and we couldn't even get a baseline for a 10minute interval. Sara said she was about to send me to the hospital to be do a more involved monitoring. Told me she'd try one more time. It worked (thank goodness!!!)
Got a 10minute interval with 3 minor eccels, but since I'm due back Friday, they said they would let me go. OMG stressful!!

37 week checkup
37week checkup
Urine: still some white blood cells
BP: awesome! (well considering, lol) 128/88!! yeah buddy!
weight: exact same, no gain (weird cuz i adore my food..mainly crap too)
Dilation: "roomy fingertip" LMAO..love that :P
HR: 125 bpm
DR said the back pain sounds I've been having is like my body trying to prep for contractions. He said "so don't let it" jokingly. (like I have control over that, lol) Then he guessed that Peep is about 6 1/2 lbs. He said he is like 98%sure she will be 7-7 1/2lbs at birth. He goes, "no doubt she'll be your smallest, I just couldnt see her reaching 8 lbs. I am going to bet 7 and a quarter."
A quarter?? lmao who says that?
All in all, looking good and I'll be back tomorrow for my NST

NST
so this was scheduled at 10:30... I was back in the car by noon!! so much for a 20 minute visit.
So I go back and do my 20minute thing and DR came in, checked it and said "no, She's not active enough. Too many decels, let's stay on a little longer." so I did...I stayed a bit over an HOUR on there before I got my raises they wanted. Some Med student or whoever she was came in, checked in and said I had 3 accelerations in the past 10minutes, so I could stop. I was confused cuz I had watched the monitor the whole time, and yes I did have those 3, but what about the decels and the other 50 minutes of basically baseline (outside a couple dips). ?
I chalked it up to them being the med pro's and moved on. They also wanted to do a urine dip and BP check. Not sure what my numbers were on that though, but she said "ok, that a bit better. Maybe you need to just be able to lay in a dimly lit room and relax. So good for your BP"
(uhhh yeah right, I wish!! My life is way too stressful right now)
So we got my next weeks stuff scheduled and I left.

36 Week Checkup
36week Checkup
weight not sure, but huge, lol
BP I wanna say was 147/88, but I was looking at the baby wall and not paying attention, didn't want to feel stupid and ask her to repeat it again, lol
HR was 130.
urine dip was negative. Negative for what? I have no clue just heard Jody rambling my stats to him
Today was my 1st cervical check this pregnancy sad face, I don't like those. He said I'm like a fingertip so woot! I do NOT want to dilate early and a fingertip is like nothing. He said he still isn't happy with my BP and how her heart decels when my BP goes up, so I'm being brought back in on Friday for another NST, and then he said next week, he thinks he's gong to have me come in Mon for 37 week OB visit, tues for NST and again friday for NST. He said if my BP doesn't look good this next visit I will probably start meds. Good thing is I only have 3 weeks left so it'll be a short lived medicine.
so thats my checkup info
