Party of 5
April 2, 2012
When I woke up this morning I was a mother to two amazing children. I knew that in a matter of hours that would change. My daughter wouldn't be the only girl anymore. My son would no longer be "The Baby". This photo was taken in the waiting room of the hospital. I had asked my mom to watched them until I was out of surgery.
I checked into the hospital at noon. My surgery wasn't set to start until 2:30. I had prepped my mom for a long wait. I was about to have a scheduled c-section and could be bumped if need be.
The first thing you do is dress into a snazzy hospital gown. I have some friends that chose to pack their own. I didn't. Honestly I don't see the point. It's going to get gross and I was alone really, so no need, ya know? After you are dressed you do the IV(and they go ahead and swipe some blood, just in case they come across a need for it) and an exam. You lay in your bed, they put monitors around your stomach to check HR and Contraction level. (surprisingly I was having mild to moderate ones, but was unaware..) Then the exam begins. Holy Moly, this lady asked me everything you could fathom. It took over an hour for her to question me.

Pre-Op Room |
Next the anesthesiologist comes in and chats with you. He explains everything that will go on and answer any questions. This was my 2nd time doing this, so I pretty much knew. But he was super sweet and we chatted for a while.
Then the nurse came back and said my doctor is already there and wants to know if I mind going into surgery a little early. No way!! Let's get this show on the road. I was anxious to have my baby girl and go home, haha.
So, she gave me some special wipes and I had to go to the bathroom and wipe from boob to knee with them on the front of my body. What comes next you ask? Well then it gets personal. I had to lay down and she shaved me!! Oh yeah, you want a baby? You must check any form of modesty at the door. I'll be honest. I did let things get a little hairy (pun intended) cause after a while grooming becomes difficult and well, I didn't really care in the last couple weeks. After my trim, I get treated to some alka seltzer. It is supposed to be for your stomach acids and blah blah blah. Whatever, just drink it fast. It is nasty.
Before I knew it we were on our way to the OR and leaving hubby. He was with me up until this point. they have hubby (or whoever you take) dress up all nice in some scrubs while you get prepped .

Hubby waiting to be called in |
I will be the first to admit. I was terrified of the spinal. I have had a horrid epidural experience and lumbar punctures all throughout my teens, and a previous c-section, but still. I HATE back stuff. I was nervous, but they talk you through it and it goes fast.
I had to sit up, hunch over like a cat into the arms of a nurse. First comes the cleaning solution wipe down (Iodine), and then you get stuck with the numbing med. This is just a local and numbs the area for your spinal. If you are normal, you will get one shot at this point. I, however, have to be a freak and require three shots. All my back issues have led to a higher tolerance and I would still feel the surgery with one shot. Lucky me, huh?
After the spinal, they have you lay back on the table. There are more blue and green scrubs in the room you dare to count. Some start putting the lovely blue curtain in front of you. One goes out and gets hubby. You hear them calling out numbers, counting up to 15 a few times. (No idea what that is about. Counting the tools maybe?)

Delivery my baby!! |
Waiting impatiently :) |
Then you hear crying. It is THAT FAST. I think my surgery took 5minutes. No joke. Sewing me takes longer, of course. But my dr is actually called "lightening" because he is wicked fast. I don't know if he's fast or not, though since I've only had him deliver my kids. I get a super quick peep over the blue curtain before the whisk her away.
Fist time I saw my baby |
I craned my neck to watch as they clean her up and bring her over so I can get a better look. I ask if she's ok, and they tell me she's beautiful and perfect. I know that means healthy in Dr terms, so I just cry in happiness. I can not believe I am lucky enough to have another daughter. And medically speaking or not. She is beautiful and she is perfect!

Weekend Before Baby!
Friday: I started bleeding (more than usual cervical check spotting but not enough to go to L&D either) had some minor cramping, but the worse was I was feeling so lightheaded and sick to my stomach. I was hungry, but couldn't eat. I kept feeling like I was going to either pass out or throw up. Very weird feeling. Hubby made me sit in my recliner all day, he even made dinner. After I put Sebastian to bed, I laid down too. Just watched TV and felt blah.
Saturday: I felt a bit better . No more blood, which is always a plus and only remotely queasy so yay!
Sunday: Felt a lot better. Last minute house cleaning/baby prep, grocery run, etc.

Last NST
NST went well. She had a couple decels but nothing like before and stayed on the monitor really well. Only took 25 minutes!! BUT dr didn't like how I got up from the chair and was concerned with my pressure so he wanted a urine sample (?) and a cervical check (sad face, I wasn't signed up for that today)
Cervix is "starting to dilate" but he didn't say a number of cm or anything, and then said he could totally feel her head in position AND would say "feel that?" and I was like "nooo...???" Apparently I am contracting?? He said I have to rest up, take it easy, no lifting, etc etc over the weekend and he "hopes" I make it until Monday...

yet another NST
NST, went great. She was a mad dancer and kept her excels like amazing AND stayed on the monitor the entire time. That has never happened. Her baseline stayed in the 140s but she'd dance up to the 160-170s and was just all happy. The entire 20 minutes went perfect!!
38 Week Checkup
went ok I suppose, lol.
weight is the same.
BP was good (133/87) high for me, yes, but not scary. Too much white blood cells in urine once again, so they are giving me a new script of antibiotics. Still dilated at 1cm, but dr said she dropped and he could feel her head! eek, lol. We went over all my surgery stuff again, and he gave me a list of things to look out for cuz he is praying she behaves. Says she is way lower than he'd like for her to be at this point, and with her being my 3rd, who knows if she is going to decide to make her entrance before we are ready..oi

NST
took an hour and a half!!! ?? So apparently the "deal" is you have to have 20minutes of complete line (no breaks) and have 2 ecels during that time. Well no watch/phone/clock and I was on there what I thought to be at least 20 minutes. There were no breaks, but a couple tiny decels. THEN she began kicking it off her. Took 4 different people coming in and repositioning me and trying to locate a good enough spot where she would stay put. after forever I finally asked if we got enough at the beginning, and they said No. Said she must have been sleeping or something cuz there were no eccels. She wasn't asleep unless she's active when she sleeps cuz i felt her the whole time.
Her HR was all over the place and we couldn't even get a baseline for a 10minute interval. Sara said she was about to send me to the hospital to be do a more involved monitoring. Told me she'd try one more time. It worked (thank goodness!!!)
Got a 10minute interval with 3 minor eccels, but since I'm due back Friday, they said they would let me go. OMG stressful!!

37 week checkup
37week checkup
Urine: still some white blood cells
BP: awesome! (well considering, lol) 128/88!! yeah buddy!
weight: exact same, no gain (weird cuz i adore my food..mainly crap too)
Dilation: "roomy fingertip" LMAO..love that :P
HR: 125 bpm
DR said the back pain sounds I've been having is like my body trying to prep for contractions. He said "so don't let it" jokingly. (like I have control over that, lol) Then he guessed that Peep is about 6 1/2 lbs. He said he is like 98%sure she will be 7-7 1/2lbs at birth. He goes, "no doubt she'll be your smallest, I just couldnt see her reaching 8 lbs. I am going to bet 7 and a quarter."
A quarter?? lmao who says that?
All in all, looking good and I'll be back tomorrow for my NST

NST
so this was scheduled at 10:30... I was back in the car by noon!! so much for a 20 minute visit.
So I go back and do my 20minute thing and DR came in, checked it and said "no, She's not active enough. Too many decels, let's stay on a little longer." so I did...I stayed a bit over an HOUR on there before I got my raises they wanted. Some Med student or whoever she was came in, checked in and said I had 3 accelerations in the past 10minutes, so I could stop. I was confused cuz I had watched the monitor the whole time, and yes I did have those 3, but what about the decels and the other 50 minutes of basically baseline (outside a couple dips). ?
I chalked it up to them being the med pro's and moved on. They also wanted to do a urine dip and BP check. Not sure what my numbers were on that though, but she said "ok, that a bit better. Maybe you need to just be able to lay in a dimly lit room and relax. So good for your BP"
(uhhh yeah right, I wish!! My life is way too stressful right now)
So we got my next weeks stuff scheduled and I left.

36 Week Checkup
36week Checkup
weight not sure, but huge, lol
BP I wanna say was 147/88, but I was looking at the baby wall and not paying attention, didn't want to feel stupid and ask her to repeat it again, lol
HR was 130.
urine dip was negative. Negative for what? I have no clue just heard Jody rambling my stats to him
Today was my 1st cervical check this pregnancy sad face, I don't like those. He said I'm like a fingertip so woot! I do NOT want to dilate early and a fingertip is like nothing. He said he still isn't happy with my BP and how her heart decels when my BP goes up, so I'm being brought back in on Friday for another NST, and then he said next week, he thinks he's gong to have me come in Mon for 37 week OB visit, tues for NST and again friday for NST. He said if my BP doesn't look good this next visit I will probably start meds. Good thing is I only have 3 weeks left so it'll be a short lived medicine.
so thats my checkup info

35 week Checkup
Todays visit: (yeah due to BP I got a bonus visit)
35 weeks 1 day:
I assumed we'd do a quick BP check, sign consent form for surgery and leave...nope.
weight check: up a pound since last week. (yes I still love food, lol)
urine: white blood cells AGAIN meaning there is pain in my body somewhere we need to address. He is "thinking" simple UTI but I have no other symptoms of one, but I do have this weird burning deal (not sure if I mentioned it here or not, but he said he doesn't sound like a UTI)he said he'll give me a script for antibiotics and it'll help with whatever it may be, including IF it is a UTI
BP: no idea, him and Jodie (nurse) were blabbering so fast it made my head spin. He instantly ordered blood work. 3 freaking tubes, AND a 24 hour pee-catch. Yep, he thinks I have Pre-E, which is a HUGE fear of mine. I'm mad, pissed actually. I have to start it after my morning pee tomorrow, and then continue it until my morning Wed pee and bring it that morning. Yeah I have to keep a huge jug of freaking PEE in my fridge, that's just nasty. I asked for a bio-hazard bag to keep it in.
On the plus side, Sebastian found the part I put in the toilet and he rocks it as a hat!

34 Week Checkup
ok, 34 week checkup sucked. Good stuff first. My happy non-stop eating self only gained 2lbs. woot, I was shocked. I am 34weeks 2days and belly is measuring 33, so another woot!! Also her HR was 152bpm, so that was fabu as well!! Looked like it was going to be a great visit. but no.
BP time:
154/95... damn it!! Sara was not happy. She wanted to draw blood and have me tested for preE, but wanted to try to "calm me down" first. So she had me laying on my side, taking deep breaths, etc and rechecked it. I don't know what it was cuz we got to chatting, as usual. But she said it was ok, still high but not enough to require and emergency blood draw. She checked my face/ankles/feet/hands for swelling and there was none, which is great news. I have things to look for now. Also I have to come back next week for a BP check and to talk to my OB. He was out today so no scheduling, (drat) There was talk about shots to speed up lung development and stuff in case BP doesn't stay stable and the only cure is to deliver baby, but we would needs lungs to be OK. Our goal is to keep her in these next 5 weeks though!!

NST: NonStressTest
NST RESULTS: (before hand, I had my coffee, and was snacking on Andes Mints in the car, hoping to get her mojo going)
First of all, the nurse had me lay in a HUGE fluffy/velvety recliner, so comfy. Then she didn't strap anything to me. I had to hold the monitor the whole time..is that weird? Seemed weird to me.
When she first put it on, Peep was nice and energetic and moving a lot. She even did a complete roll and I had to relocate her HB again. Then she was decently still, with a few subtle kicks and stuff here and there.
Results were baseline at 120-128..when she moved it'd only move up to like 133ish. During the 1st 10minutes, we had 5 good bumps in the chart, but one decel. When she rolled, her HR shot up to 176 and then dropped to 57 for about 5 seconds. Then she gradually went back up to her baseline. Once she evened back out, the next 10minutes we got 2 good bumps, but they were minor. Sara said she'd like to see better, and didn't like how long it took her to recover from her decel simply from rolling.
Apparently, she overexerts herself very easily and I am on must do kick counts everyday now. (before it was just if I was worried)
She said she'll wait and see how my counts go until my next appointment (have to write/chart them) and based on that we will see if I need another NST
oh and she said "good thing you're already planning a c-section cuz I'm not sure she'd do well with the stress of pushing"..

32 Week Check UP
Ok, sorry this is late. I have really sucked at keeping up here. ugh, sorry and hope y'all are still reading, :)
weight gain...uh YEAH, lol. But she said I looked perfect and still well within the range they want me in so la-te-da.. (I think I'm up like 4more lbs this 2weeks??)
BP was way high for me, even borderline/high for most, so they arent' happy. It was 130(something?) over 90...yeah no beuno
heartbeat was hard to detect, mainly cuz she's been a footling breech and now she's head down, almost engaged or something. BUT they kept the Doppler on me forever cuz even while she moved, they couldn't get her HR above the 120 mark. They said that is the lowest they'll accept to, sooooo
with the decreased fetal movement I'm describing, plus my BP, plus my Charley horses AND her baseline HR..I get to go back tomorrow for a NST..ahh good times, not
I also scheduled my next visit in 2 weeks.

Braxton Hicks?
ok yes. I am on my THIRD pregnancy, and I really should know this. But I never really experienced Braxton Hicks Contractions before. I had some tightening or cramping with my little boy, but I don't think that is what it was. With him it was more localized and slightly painful. Today however, I do believe it was true Braxton Hicks because it was more all over.
My entire belly would get tense and crazy hard for about 30seconds to a minute, ease up and then it'd do it again a few minutes later. It wasn't painful at all but you were definitely aware it was happening. Skylar even felt my belly at one point and asked why it was so tight and hard. I got them off and on all day, but again, nothing painful and I'm not at all worried about it. I'm sure they are basic BH and my body is just doing what it feels it should be doing.
Interesting stuff,haha

30 Week CheckUp
Today was very basic.
weight check (up 2more lbs, haha), urine is fine, Bp is 124/80 (lil high for me, but ok) and I was approved Prilosec for my never ending heartburn. He told me to give it a week and then we'll revisit the issue if it doesn't ease up. I'm measuring great and on schedule. Heard her HB but it didn't tell me BPM.
He looked for her HB at my belly button at first and didn't find it. The he gave a "look" and put the Doppler by my ribs and found it. DR smiled and said "yeah thought so, she's upside down" He felt around for her position and declared her to be head in ribs, feet toward my private. Ahh good times, haha. Other than that everything is what it should be and I'll be back in 2 weeks.
*as for scheduling my surgery, the hospital said they would rather wait and do that around 34 weeks*
weight check (up 2more lbs, haha), urine is fine, Bp is 124/80 (lil high for me, but ok) and I was approved Prilosec for my never ending heartburn. He told me to give it a week and then we'll revisit the issue if it doesn't ease up. I'm measuring great and on schedule. Heard her HB but it didn't tell me BPM.

Questionnaire
Today I am going to do a questionnaire I "borrowed" from another blog I read. To see hers you can CLICK HERE
When are you due: April 8th. (Easter) Skylar's bday is the 24th, Mom's is the 20th.. wow. BUT the OB is saying we should plan on scheduling about a week early (MIL's bday is March 30th)..oi
Was this planned or unplanned: You read this blog you judge, lol. It was me basically saying "I don't wanna schedule sex for a while, I wanna enjoy my husband." (Did Natural Family Planning for 10 years, this is what happens if you skimp on dates for a couple months, lol) But we couldn't be happier about it!! I'm super excited!!
How much weight gained: At my 28th week checkup I was up 15pounds
Is this your first pregnancy?: Nope, my 3rd!!
Latest food craving: Chocolate, omg I want chocolate all the time. I just really like to eat, haha. I enjoy everything
Your top two name choices or baby's name: Peep! Skylar named her that due to her being due on Easter. She knows her real name though, but it's not going public at this time. It's a name we considered with Sebastian, so those that know me in real life..There's your hint!
Worst Thing about being pregnant: Heartburn!!! I am currently *enjoying* some right now!! UGH. I have had WAY too much of this pregnancy.
Best Thing about being pregnant: I think every pregnant lady will agree. The fetal movement HAS to be the best part, especially when you can actually SEE your belly move. OMG incredible. I am decently sure this is our last lil monster, so I am soaking in as much as possible. (My anterior placenta makes this hard for me, so it's extra enjoyable when I get to feel/see her movements)
The first person you told was: My friend Tasha. She may be a buddy I met online but I love her to pieces and she kinda went through this entire experience with me..via the web, lol..
Are you more scared or excited: Definitely excited, as far as having my baby goes. If this question is for labor/delivery I'm nervous about the spinal. Had BAD experiences in the past with bad spinals/lumbar punctures/etc so needles entering my back totally freak me out. I'm having a repeat C-Section, so I pretty much know what to expect and that isn't a highlight that's for sure.
Happy or mostly moody: The same. I asked several people before answering this and the all tell me I'm generally the same person. Good ole hubby chimed in that I am a little more honest than before. I have always been a passive/pushover and I've actually been speaking up and being upfront about how people are making me feel. He said he doesn't know if it's pregnancy related or not, but loves it. Says he's got a few other people I should voice my thoughts too..but idk, haha
Last time you cried over something ridiculous was: Hey! I resent this question, hahaha. Nothing I cry over is ridiculous, :P...ok the last time I cried (just a misty teary eyed thing) was when I told my 2 year old I loved him SO big, he responded "and I love you SO little"... it was a mix of aww how cute he knew the opposite and damn he only loves me a little??? ahahahaha yeah I'm a sap
You pee an estimated __ times a day?: uhh a lot, lol. I have only gotten up middle of the night a few times though...seems to be happening more and more.
Weirdest dream you've had since pregnant?: I haven't had any "weird" dreams this pregnancy
Will you breast feed: I doubt it
Words of wisdom: Savor every moment. Even the ones that may not seem so enjoyable. This is over so quickly and you will look back at this and say "remember when".

How many weeks are you: 29 weeks 1 Day

Do you wear maternity clothes: Not really. I don't have true "mat clothes" and I can still wear my tops and have a few pairs of jeans hanging on. I expect this to all end very soon, haha

What are you looking forward to: Seeing her, holding her, and I think most of all I can not wait to see how the other two kids respond to her.
What are you not looking forward to: The spinal. The staples. The post pardum bleeding. All the meds the send you home with and you have to remember to take which one at what time. UGh

28 Weeks 2 Days
So, had another checkup. It was with the midwife.
Basic stuff, urine check (went fine), BP check (120/76=good), weight check (no idea, lol). I asked at the end how much I have gained thus far cuz I barely pay any attention and was told I have gained a total of 15lbs. Not bad IMO, and less than I was assuming, lol.
I'm measuring right on track and her heart rate was 122bpm. Her HR has always been on the low end and she's not very active but we are keeping an eye on it. The "hope" and "theory" is that since u/s all look normal, we can't catch it super great on dopler and I dont feel her as often is all because of my anterior placenta. (lining my belly acting as a cushion instead of my spine. no biggie, just an annoyance, lol)
And here comes the kicker: I have to go back in 2 WEEKS!! Omg, I'm already to that stage?? That means I'm in my 3rd trimester! Holy moly that as fast. Also I had to schedule that appointment (which will take place on the 30th of Jan) with the OB because they want to start talking surgery scheduling! Wow, lil Peep is going to be here in like 11 weeks!! (they hope to schedule her a week early)
I'll keep you readers updated! This is getting fun!

U/S Number 3 @ 25weeks/5days
So I had my ultrasound to check on her heart. (they couldn't find certain valves/chambers last time due to her being so tiny and not cooperating)
Tech said she saw everything she needed and missed last time and from what she could see, everything looked great!
I got 9 photos and we reconfirmed that she is still a girl, LOL. Baby Peep is now weighing in at approximately 2 pounds!!

Glucose Update and More
And the results are in....
My glucose level was perfect!! I scored a very nice 95 on my sugar levels. I'm so happy about that, cuz I'm sure y'all realized I was worried.
But then came some fun news. Turns out my hemoglobin level is not up to par. My body isn't making enough red blood cells to give me the hemoglobin I need to hold onto iron. SO I'm not just low in the iron, making me a simple Iron deficient anemic, I am low in red blood cells. Fun times, huh? Now I get to take some lovely new meds 3x a day for a month to help stimulate cell growth AND hope to get iron sticking to them.
Wish me luck!! (I don't wanna do the whole transfusion/hospital stays which is where we'll be if the pills don't work)
